Why I don't use hand sanitiser
Hand sanitiser may seem like an effective solution of ridding yourself of germs, but it actually does more harm than good.
It’s because hand sanitizer is so effective at killing bacteria that it’s not good for our 'microbiome.'
Our skin and gut have “good” bacteria and “bad” bacteria. The symbiosis of both is essential for our health. A healthy balance of bacteria is not only essential for our immune system, but plays a major role in anxiety, depression, energy levels, sleep & weight.
Damage to our microbiome results in lower immunity, decreased metabolism, lower energy levels & worse overall health outcomes for those with cancer & undergoing surgery.
Ingredients in hand sanitiser (such as triclosan) wreak havoc on our microbiome and gut flora - which will always lead to metabolic damage and weight gain down the track.
Triclosan has also been shown to disrupt human hormones, and evidence in mice suggests it could increase the risk of liver cancer.
Triclosan-free hand sanitisers main ingredient Eethyl alcohol has been shown to "lower the skin barrier function and render the membrane more permeable to harmful chemicals like nitrosamines from cosmetics" which is damaging our immunity - the exact opposite of what we are wanting during a global pandemic!
Simple soap and water is best. Our aim to to not distrupt the natural symbiosis of the good and bad bacteria in our system
